Waterloo rides Lazarev to victory over Elmira, 3-1

The Waterloo Siskins relied on the sparkling performance of Leo Lazarev in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Elmira Sugar Kings.

The win by Waterloo clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

The Siskins were led by Troy Lajeunesse, who registered one goal. Lajeunesse scored 16:14 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Waterloo. Matt Martin provided the assist.

Waterloo forced Elmira goalie Hayden Neuman to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Waterloo also got points from Nick Hirst, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Waterloo also got a goal from Christian Mroczkowski as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Eric Cimino, Evan Kearns, Thomas Carey, and Mitch Atkins, who contributed one each.

The Sugar Kings were led by Brad Kobryn, who scored the team's only goal. Kobryn scored 9:39 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Waterloo. David Savery picked up the assist.

The Siskins' Lazarev stopped 25 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Waterloo incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Hayden Neuman made 34 saves for Elmira on 37 shots. The Sugar Kings incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
