Elmira beats Waterloo 6-3 as Frey gets hat trick

Cass Frey netted a hat trick to lead the Elmira Sugar Kings over the Waterloo Siskins, 6-3.

Frey's first goal came 8:22 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:26 into the second and at 2:03 into the third.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Waterloo faces elimination next time out.

Elmira forced Siskins' goalies to work all game long, taking 33 shots and forcing 27 saves. Leo Lazarev made 16 stops and Ryan Hergott made 11.

Elmira also got points from Brodie Whitehead, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Elmira also had goals scored by Zac Coulter and Matt Harding, who scored one goal each. More assists for Elmira came via Brad Kobryn, who had two and Justin Cooke, David Savery, Rob Kohli, Alex Mutton, Mitch Klie, Adam Campagnolo, Reid Denstedt (APJ), and Mitch Wright, who each chipped in one.

The Siskins forced the Sugar Kings goalie Jonathan Reinhart to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Waterloo was helped by Danny Hanlon, who racked up one goal and one assist. Hanlon scored short handed 45 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-1 Elmira. Others who scored for Waterloo included Evan Kearns and Ryan Taylor, who each put in one. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Evan Buehler, who had two.

Reinhart rejected 30 shots on goal for Elmira. The Sugar Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Siskins incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For Waterloo, Christian Mroczkowski was ejected from the game.
