Elmira beats Waterloo 5-0 as Reinhart gains shutout

Jonathan Reinhart recorded a shutout against the Waterloo Siskins as the Elmira Sugar Kings picked up a 5-0 win.

The win by Elmira broke a deadlock and gave the Sugar Kings a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Waterloo's power play was ineffective against Elmira's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Sugar Kings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Elmira was helped by Brodie Whitehead, who finished with one goal. Whitehead scored 6:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. Cash Seraphim assisted on the tally. Elmira also got points from Adam Campagnolo, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Elmira included Craig Johnson, Cass Frey, and Mitch Wright, who each put in one. In addition, Elmira received assists from Adam Brubacher and Rob Kohli, who each chipped in one and Brad Kobryn, Eric Palazzolo, and Zac Coulter, who contributed two each.

The Siskins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Sugar Kings to score on any of their three power plays. Waterloo forced Elmira goalie Reinhart to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Jonathan Reinhart made 34 saves for the Sugar Kings on 34 shots. Elmira ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. The Sugar Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Mutton was ejected from the game. The Siskins' Leo Lazarev stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Waterloo ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For the Siskins, Luke Gazzola and Mitch Atkins were ejected from the contest.
