Waterloo downs Elmira in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

Troy Lajeunesse gave the Waterloo Siskins a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Elmira Sugar Kings when he scored 4:09 into the extra period.

The win gave Waterloo a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Siskins were paced by Lajeunesse, who finished with one goal.

Waterloo stifled Elmira's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Sugar Kings were unable to stop the Siskins from sending pucks towards the net, and Waterloo eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Waterloo also got points from Evan Buehler, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Christian Mroczkowski also scored for Waterloo. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Mitch Atkins, who had one and Eric Cimino and Danny Hanlon, who each chipped in two.

Elmira forced the Siskins goalie Leo Lazarev to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Sugar Kings were led by Zac Coulter, who had one goal and one assist. Coulter scored 1:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. Rob Kohli picked up the assist. Elmira also got a goal from Mitch Klie as well. More assists for Elmira came via Brodie Whitehead and Alex Mutton, who contributed one each.

Lazarev recorded 35 saves for Waterloo. The Siskins incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Waterloo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Martin was ejected from the game. Hayden Neuman made 28 saves for Elmira on 31 shots. The Sugar Kings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
