Stratford beats Kitchener 4-3 after comeback scare

The Stratford Cullitons survived a determined comeback attempt by the Kitchener Dutchmen on the way to a 4-3 win.

Stratford made the score 4-2 on a goal by Tyson Baker at 17:26 in the third period, and Kitchener got as close as 4-3 when Adam Kawalec scored 19:21 into the third period.

The win gave the Cullitons a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Mitch Brooks had two goals to lead Stratford to victory. Brooks found the back of the net 3:10 into the third period to make the score 2-2 and again while on the power play 8:15 into the third to make the score 3-2 Stratford.

The Cullitons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Kitchener power plays.

Stratford additionally got points from Trevor Sauder, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Stratford came via Deven Kropf, who had two and Jordan Currie, Trevor MacDonald, and Ryker Killins, who contributed one each.

The Dutchmen's offense rang up 55 shots on Stratford's net.

Others who scored for Kitchener included Alex Demrovsky and Jacob Cascagnette, who each put in one. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Matt Guild, Mac Nichol, Philip Moser, Kegan Blasby, Jordan Delaurier, and Keli Grant, who each chipped in one.

The Cullitons' Nicholas Caldwell stopped 52 shots out of the 55 that he faced. Stratford incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Marc Williams made 19 saves for Kitchener on 23 shots. The Dutchmen incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
