Niagara Falls boosted by Verrier's play in net, beats Welland 3-1

The Niagara Falls Canucks relied on the sparkling performance of Emerson Verrier in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Welland Jr. Canadians.

After the loss made the series score 2-3 in the best of seven series, Welland faces elimination next time out.

Niagara Falls was led by Austin Wright, who registered one goal. Wright scored 9:43 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. Garrett Gallardi provided the assist.

The Canucks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Welland power plays. Niagara Falls kept the Jr. Canadians' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeffrey Heartwell made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Others who scored for Niagara Falls included Marcus Michalski and Brooker Muir, who scored one goal each. More assists for Niagara Falls came via MacKenzie Wood, Tory McLean, Johnny Curran, Mitch McIntosh, and Billy Saxton, who contributed one a piece.

Welland was led by Brayden Stortz, who scored the team's only goal. Stortz scored 13:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. Gabe Ruggi picked up the assist.

Verrier rejected 29 shots on goal for the Canucks. Niagara Falls incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Jr. Canadians ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Welland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Connor Walters was ejected from the game.
