Leamington rips St. Marys, 7-0

The Leamington Flyers were firing on all cylinders against the St. Marys Lincolns, and when the final buzzer sounded Flyers emerged with a 7-0 win.

The win gave Leamington a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

St. Marys was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Flyers were able to score four times while on the power play.

Leamington was sparked by Chris Scott, who registered one goal and one assist. Scott scored on the power play 16:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. A boarding penalty on Braydon Blight had put the Flyers on the power play. Mitchell Amante provided the assist.

Leamington stifled the Lincolns' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flyers forced St. Marys goalie Andrew Masters to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

Leamington also got points from Amante, who also finished with three goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Alex Seguin also scored for Leamington. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Nathan Opblinger, who had three, David Dalby, Alex Friesen, Eric Henderson, and Tony Spidalieri, who contributed one a piece, and Cole Chevalier and Dylan Seguin, who each chipped in two.

Austyn Roudebush recorded 17 saves for Leamington. The Flyers incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Leamington ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Scott was ejected from the game. Andrew Masters made 44 saves for the Lincolns on 51 shots. St. Marys incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
