Battisti, LaSalle blank St. Thomas, 5-0

The LaSalle Vipers used a sparkling performance by Paolo Battisti to take down the St. Thomas Stars, as the netminder did not allow a goal in LaSalle's 5-0 shutout victory.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, St. Thomas faces elimination next time out.

The Stars' power play was ineffective against the Vipers' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

LaSalle excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances.

The Vipers were helped by Aaron Luchuk, who finished with one goal. Luchuk scored on the power play 4:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 LaSalle. LaSalle had gained a power play chance when Brett Van Dusen was whistled for tripping. Dylan Denomme provided the assist. LaSalle also got points from Devon Paliani, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. LaSalle also had goals scored by Blake Jones and Tyler Russell, who scored one goal each. More assists for LaSalle came via Andrew Burns, who had two and Manny Silverio, Austin Hall, Nikko Sablone, Nathan Savage, Zack Percy, and Bryce Mayea, who each chipped in one.

St. Thomas kept the Vipers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Battisti made 41 saves on 41 shots. The Stars struggled on the penalty kill, allowing LaSalle to score two power play goals on three chances.

The Vipers ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and two majors. Team's Liam Murray and Mayea were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Nikolas Dampier made 22 saves for St. Thomas on 27 shots. The Stars ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. For St. Thomas, Carson Brookshaw and Austin Ulett were ejected from the contest.
