Hellems' goals lift St. Thomas to 6-3 victory over LaSalle

The St. Thomas Stars relied on the scoring touch of Braden Hellems, who netted two goals, to beat the LaSalle Vipers, 6-3.

Hellems scored at 11:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Thomas and again while 18:15 into the second to make the score 4-1 St. Thomas.

With the win, St. Thomas evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

In the losing effort, LaSalle was led by Devon Paliani, who registered two goals. Paliani scored the first of his two goals at 5:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 LaSalle. Bryce Mayea provided the assist. Paliani's next tally made the score 5-3 St. Thomas with 20 seconds left in the third period. Dylan Denomme assisted on the tally.

The Stars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four LaSalle power plays. St. Thomas got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

St. Thomas additionally got points from Alex Morgan, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Luc Knight, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Josh Coyle also scored for St. Thomas. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Carson Moniz, Matt Simsons, and Aiden Jamieson, who each chipped in one and Lucas Triemstra and Matt Tsioros, who contributed two a piece.

The Vipers' offense rang up 46 shots on the Stars' net. LaSalle struggled on the penalty kill, allowing St. Thomas to score two power play goals on three chances.

LaSalle also got a goal from Nicolas Crescenzi as well. Other players who recorded assists for LaSalle were Brett Langlois, who had one.

Nikolas Dampier recorded 43 saves for the Stars. St. Thomas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Paolo Battisti made 22 saves for the Vipers on 27 shots. LaSalle incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
