GAME RECAP

Battisti, LaSalle blank St. Thomas, 3-0

Vollmer Recreation Complex    Wed, Feb 26, 2014

Paolo Battisti made 49 saves to complete the shutout and led the LaSalle Vipers to a 3-0 win against the St. Thomas Stars.

The win gave LaSalle a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Vipers were sparked by Devon Paliani, who had one goal. Paliani scored short handed 13:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 LaSalle. LaSalle found itself down a man on Bill Eansor's roughing after whistle. Bryce Mayea assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:20 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Vipers stifled St. Thomas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Stars were unable to stop LaSalle from sending pucks towards the net, and the Vipers eventually piled up 50 shots on goal.

LaSalle also got a goal from Mark Manchurek as well. More assists for LaSalle came via Aaron Luchuk, who had two and Austin Hall and Andrew Burns, who each chipped in one.

St. Thomas' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three LaSalle power plays. The Stars' offense rang up 49 shots on LaSalle's net.

The Vipers ended with 37 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For LaSalle, Zack Percy was ejected from the game. Nikolas Dampier made 47 saves for St. Thomas on 50 shots. The Stars totaled 45 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play. St. Thomas ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chris Carreiro was ejected from the game.
