The Port Colborne Pirates tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Caledonia Corvairs would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 7-5. Caledonia made the score 7-4 on a goal by Cody Brown at 13:09 in the third period, and Port Colborne got as close as 7-5 when Brock Ackerman scored 18:46 into the third period. The win gave the Corvairs a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Caledonia got the win thanks to a great game by Brier Jonathan, who had two goals and one assist. Jonathan scored the first of his two goals at 6:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Mitch Brown provided the assist. Jonathan's next tally made the score 5-3 Caledonia with 1:39 left in the second period. Cosimo Fontana picked up the assist. The Corvairs forced the Pirates goalie Jake Danson to work between the pipes, taking 67 shots. Caledonia also got points from Brown, who also registered two goals and one assist and Fontana, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Caledonia also had goals scored by Jordan Peacock and Justin Abraham, who each put in one. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Kyler Nixon, who had three and Spencer Gourlay, Connor Murphy, and Matt Quilty, who each chipped in one. Port Colborne got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Port Colborne additionally got points from Joseph Dagostino, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Ryall Ledyard, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Port Colborne included Quinn Geddes and Brandon Cullen, who scored one goal each. More assists for Port Colborne came via Reilly Wilson(APJ), who had one, Spencer Fox, who had two, and James Mense-Detrich, who had three. Colin Furlong made 12 saves for Caledonia on 17 shots. The Corvairs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Pirates' Danson stopped 60 shots out of the 67 that he faced. Port Colborne incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. For the Pirates, Geddes was ejected from the game. |
