Chatham holds on for 5-3 win against Strathroy

The Chatham Maroons survived a determined comeback attempt by the Strathroy Rockets on the way to a 5-3 win.

Chatham made the score 5-2 on a goal by Kyle Brothers at 13:26 in the third period, and Strathroy got as close as 5-3 when Dan Chapman scored 17:07 into the third period.

The win gave the Maroons a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Adam Arseneault was all over the ice for Chatham, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Arseneault scored 9:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Brothers picked up the assist.

The Maroons stifled the Rockets' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Chatham kept Strathroy's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jack Moylan made 34 saves on 39 shots.

Chatham additionally got points from Brothers, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Michael Verboom, who also had one goal and one assist. Chatham also had goals scored by Trevor Richardson and Tanner Ferguson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Chatham received assists from James McEwan and Hayden Verbeek, who contributed one a piece and Connor Annett and Nate Pietens, who each chipped in two.

The Rockets forced the Maroons goalie Jacob Keogh to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Wes Baker also scored for Strathroy. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Ryan Field, who had two and Kurtis Sander and Nick Boyer, who contributed one a piece.

Chatham's Keogh stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Maroons incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Strathroy incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
