The Stratford Cullitons beat the Cambridge Winter Hawks, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. A goal 10:02 into the the first period by Tyson Baker proved to be the game winner, and powered Stratford to the victory Mitch Vandergunst picked up the assist.The win gave the Cullitons a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Nicholas Caldwell frustrated Cambridge's offense all game, and stopped 25 shots en route to a shutout. Stratford pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 34 penalty minutes. The Cullitons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 10 Cambridge power plays. Stratford kept the Winter Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Lucas Machalski made 36 saves on 38 shots. Jordan Currie also scored for Stratford. More assists for Stratford came via Brett Heaman, who had one. The Cullitons registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Cambridge incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. For the Winter Hawks, Cody Gratton was ejected from the game. |
