Kitchener uses big second period to beat Listowel, 8-2Listowel Arena Fri, Feb 28, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kitchener Dutchmen used a five-goal second period to put away the Listowel Cyclones, 8-2. The win gave Kitchener a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Keli Grant had one goal and three assists to lead the Dutchmen. Grant scored 4:49 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Kitchener. Brett Clampitt provided the assist. Kitchener put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Listowel to score on any of its four power plays. The Cyclones were unable to stop the Dutchmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Kitchener eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Kitchener also got points from Mac Nichol, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Clampitt, who also racked up one goal and three assists, and Clayton Greer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Kitchener also had goals scored by Alex Demrovsky, who had two and Mitchell Smith and Connor Cole, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Philip Moser, who had two and Jesse Young, Scott Pedersen, Kyle Ellis, Jordan Delaurier, and Jacob Cascagnette, who contributed one a piece. Listowel was led by Kenny Huether, who registered one goal. Huether scored 5:34 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kitchener. Ted Nichol picked up the assist. Listowel also got a goal from Reid Simmons as well. Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Ray McFalls, Chad Lemire, and Kevin Gergley, who each chipped in one. The Dutchmen's Marc Williams stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Kitchener incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Daniel Dekoning made 35 saves for the Cyclones on 43 shots. Listowel incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
