Guelph downs Waterloo in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Michael Courvoisier gave the Guelph Hurricanes a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Waterloo Siskins when he scored 7:53 into the extra period.

After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, Waterloo faces elimination next time out.

Guelph almost relinquished a three-score lead. The Hurricanes made the score 4-1 on a goal by Matt Nightingale at 15:39 in the second period. The Siskins pulled to within 4-3 on a goal by Troy Lajeunesse at 8:54 in the third period.

Guelph put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Waterloo to score on any of its seven power plays. The Hurricanes' offense rang up 34 shots on the Siskins' net.

Guelph was led by Craig Martini, who registered two goals. Martini scored the first of his two goals at 4:31 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matt Lippa assisted on the tally. Martini's next tally made the score 3-1 Guelph with 4:58 left in the second period. The Hurricanes had gotten the advantage when Waterloo's Eric Cimino was sent off for tripping. Lippa picked up the assist. In addition, Guelph received assists from Lucas Pozzobon, who had two and Patrick Kudla, Sam Natale, Ryan Migliaccio, Chad Herron, and Zach McFadden, who contributed one a piece.

Guelph was unable to stop the Siskins from sending pucks towards the net, and Waterloo eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The defensemen of the Siskins were also effective in the Hurricanes' zone, and came away with two goals.

Waterloo was helped by Matthew Mah, who tallied two goals. Mah scored the first of his two goals at 1:55 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Guelph. Connor Bodnar assisted on the tally. Mah's next tally made the score 4-4 with 3:22 left in the third period. Lajeunesse picked up the assist. Waterloo also got points from Lajeunesse, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Waterloo also got a goal from Evan Buehler as well. More assists for Waterloo came via Christian Mroczkowski, Mitch Atkins, Ryan Taylor, and Danny Hanlon, who each chipped in one.

Stormer Santana recorded 37 saves for Guelph. The Hurricanes incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Siskins' Leo Lazarev stopped 29 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Waterloo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
