Buehler's hat trick boosts Waterloo over Guelph, 6-1

A hat trick by Evan Buehler was the highlight in Siskins' 6-1 win against the Guelph Hurricanes.

Buehler got on the scoresheet 27 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 12:47 into the first and at 14:35 into the second.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Guelph faces elimination next time out.

The Waterloo Siskins were led by goalie Leo Lazarev, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. Lazarev certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.82 entering the contest.

Waterloo forced Hurricanes' netminders to work all game long, launching 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Stormer Santana made 20 stops and Bradley Van Schubert made eight. The Siskins' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Guelph power plays.

Waterloo also got points from Christian Mroczkowski, who also registered one goal and two assists. Waterloo also had goals scored by Troy Lajeunesse and Thomas Carey, who each put in one. More assists for Waterloo came via Nick Hirst, Evan Kearns, Matthew Mah, Mitch Atkins, and Ryan Taylor, who contributed one a piece and Andrew Brubacher and Danny Hanlon, who each chipped in two.

The Hurricanes excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Guelph forced Waterloo goalie Lazarev to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Hurricanes were led by Patrick Kudla, who scored the team's only goal. Kudla scored 3:55 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Chad Herron assisted on the tally.

The Siskins incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Waterloo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Eric Cimino was ejected from the game. Guelph ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Hurricanes, Dylan Sayle was ejected from the game.
