Waterloo downs Guelph in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Waterloo Siskins' Evan Buehler scored 17:38 into overtime to beat the Guelph Hurricanes, 5-4 (OT).

The win gave Waterloo a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Siskins came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Waterloo fell behind 4-2 after a goal by Guelph's Michael Courvoisier at 16:26 in the first period. The Siskins knotted things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Troy Lajeunesse at 2:11 in the third period.

Buehler was all over the ice for Waterloo, as he finished with two goals in the win.

The Siskins stifled the Hurricanes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Guelph was unable to stop Waterloo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Siskins eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

Waterloo also got points from Ryan Taylor, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Mitch Atkins also scored for Waterloo. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Eric Cimino, Matthew Mah, and Andrew Brubacher, who contributed one a piece and Nick Hirst, Christian Mroczkowski, and Danny Hanlon, who each chipped in two.

The Hurricanes forced Waterloo goalie Leo Lazarev to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Guelph was led by Craig Martini, who registered three goals. In addition, Guelph received assists from Ryan Migliaccio, who had two and Sebastian Stangherlin, Matt Lippa, Patrick Kudla, and Dylan Sayle, who contributed one a piece.

Lazarev rejected 41 shots on goal for the Siskins. Waterloo incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Stormer Santana recorded 39 saves for the Hurricanes. Guelph incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
