Leo Lazarev had a standout game with 35 saves, and the Waterloo Siskins beat the Guelph Hurricanes 2-1. The win gave Waterloo a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Siskins were sparked by Nick Hirst, who tallied one goal. Hirst scored on the power play 8:08 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Waterloo. Waterloo had gained a power play chance when Matt Lippa was whistled for slashing. Joshua Defarias picked up the assist. The Siskins' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Guelph power plays. Mitch Atkins also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Matt Schieck, who had two. Guelph's offense rang up 36 shots on Waterloo's net. Penalties took their toll on the Hurricanes, as their penalty kill unit let in two power play goals. Guelph was led by Michael Courvoisier, who scored the team's only goal. Courvoisier scored 6:22 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Caleb Champagne provided the assist. The Siskins incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Stormer Santana recorded 25 saves for the Hurricanes. Guelph incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
