Nieminen's goals lift Ancaster to 7-3 victory over Thorold

Zach Nieminen was all over the ice for the Ancaster Avalanche, as he tallied two goals in Ancaster's 7-3 win over the Thorold Blackhawks.

Nieminen found the back of the net 7:46 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Ancaster and again while 10:53 into the second to make the score 4-1 Ancaster.

With the win, the Avalanche evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Ancaster made Blackhawks' netminders to work in net, finishing with 35 shots and forcing 28 saves. Brendan Polasek made 19 stops and Ian Shorthouse made nine.

Ancaster also got points from Blake Luscombe, who also registered one goal and one assist, Ryan Lewis, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Cole Nagy, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Jake Milligan, who also had two goals and one assist. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Eric Eustace, Michael Pollice, Max Balinson, Ryan Knill, and Harrison Domagala, who each chipped in one and Christopher Klack and Hayden Guitard, who contributed two a piece.

Thorold was helped by Zach McQuade, who registered one goal. McQuade scored 9:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ancaster. Drake Hart provided the assist. Thorold additionally got points from Chris Goulet, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Joe Mitchell also scored for Thorold. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Kevin Lavoie and Dylan Burdick, who each chipped in one.

The Avalanche's Matt Calas stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Ancaster incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Blackhawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
