Welland falls to Niagara Falls in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

Brooker Muir gave the Niagara Falls Canucks a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Welland Jr. Canadians when he scored 15:26 into the extra period.

The win gave Niagara Falls a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Muir had two goals and one assist to lead the Canucks. Muir scored the first of his two goals at 17:07 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Marcus Michalski assisted on the tally. Muir's next tally made the score 3-2 Niagara Falls with 4:34 left in overtime. Johnny Curran picked up the assist.

Niagara Falls stifled Welland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canucks forced the Jr. Canadians goalie Jeffrey Heartwell to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Niagara Falls additionally got points from Mitch McIntosh, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Cole Langan, who had one.

Welland excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Jr. Canadians' offense rang up 38 shots on Niagara Falls' net.

Welland was helped by Jimmy Sheehan, who racked up one goal. Sheehan scored 17:21 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Welland. Matt Cuglietta assisted on the tally. Bryan Komasara also scored for Welland. In addition, Welland received assists from Adam Mataya and Cole McKnight, who each chipped in one.

Emerson Verrier made 36 saves for the Canucks on 38 shots. Niagara Falls incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Canucks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Billy Saxton was ejected from the game. Heartwell recorded 40 saves for the Jr. Canadians. Welland incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Jr. Canadians, Jason Lacroix and Brayden Stortz were ejected from the contest.
