Quad City beats Arizona 3-0 as Rimmer gains shutout

The Quad City Mallards used a sparkling performance by Ty Rimmer to take down the Arizona Sundogs, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Quad City's 3-0 shutout victory.

The Mallards were paced by Gergo Nagy, who racked up one goal. Nagy scored 1:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Quad City. Matt Boyd provided the assist.

Quad City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Mallards' defensive effort looked to be improved. Quad City averages 3.0 goals allowed per game. The Mallards relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Nagy, Thomas Frazee and Nicholas Rioux took 12 of the team's 23 shots.

Quad City additionally got points from Mike Stinziani, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Quad City also got a goal from Jordan Mayer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Jeff Lee, who had one.

Arizona's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Quad City power plays. The Sundogs' offense operated below they season average. Arizona puts an average of 2.8 pucks into the net per game. By firing 32 shots on goal, the Sundogs exceeded the 20.1 shots they average per game this year.

Arizona was led by Kevin Baker, who took four shots.

Rimmer rejected 32 shots on goal for Quad City. The Mallards ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Sundogs' Andrew Engelage stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Arizona ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
