Allen boosted by Pitton's play in net, beats Missouri 4-1Silverstein Eye Centers Arena Tue, Feb 25, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Bryan Pitton stood on his head and made 37 saves to lead the Allen Americans to a 4-1 victory over the Missouri Mavericks. Allen was sparked by Jonathan Lessard, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lessard scored 4:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Allen. Brian McMillin picked up the assist. By firing 30 shots on goal, the Americans exceeded the 23.5 shots they average per game this year. Allen's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Tyler Ludwig also scored for Allen. More assists for Allen came via Alex Lavoie, who had three and Mike Berube and Jonathon Zion, who contributed one a piece. Missouri did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Mavericks average 3.6 goals per game. The Americans were unable to stop Missouri from sending pucks towards the net, and the Mavericks eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Missouri was led by Sebastien Thinel, who scored the team's only goal. Thinel scored on the power play 5:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Missouri. A holding stick penalty on Spencer Asuchak had put the Mavericks on the power play. Mathieu Gagnon provided the assist. Allen incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Shane Owen recorded 26 saves for Missouri. The Mavericks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
