London uses big second period to beat Cambridge, 6-0

The London Nationals scored three goals in the second period to pull away from the Cambridge Winter Hawks and clinch a 6-0 win.

The win moved London to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

The Nationals pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 57 penalty minutes.

London was sparked by Aaron Dartch, who finished with one goal. Dartch scored on the power play 5:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 London. The Nationals had taken the advantage when Cambridge's Andrew Coupland got sent off for slashing. Sean Consitt provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:04 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

London forced Winter Hawks' goalies to work without much rest, getting 39 shots and forcing 33 saves. Lucas Machalski made 32 stops and Jordan Lee made one. The Nationals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances.

London also got points from Matt Wildman, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Consitt, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. London also got a goal from Blake Thomas as well. More assists for London came via Jonathan Sims, who had one and Noah Schwartz and Paul Hopkins, who contributed two a piece.

Taylor Edwards made 23 saves for London on 23 shots. The Nationals registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For London, Ryan Tuffin was ejected from the game. The Winter Hawks ended with 47 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors and one major. Cambridge ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Eric Hackborn was ejected from the game.
