London beats St. Catharines 2-1 after comeback scare

The London Nationals survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. Catharines Falcons on the way to a 2-1 win.

London took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have St. Catharines storm back on a Julian Luciani goal 11:42 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Nationals' penalty kill excelled, as London gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Nationals were helped by Tyler Bryden, who racked up one goal. Bryden scored 11:56 into the second period to make the score London. Noah Schwartz assisted on the tally. London also got points from Schwartz, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for London were Sean Consitt, who had one.

The Falcons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five London power plays. St. Catharines was held below its usual level of production. The Falcons average 3.3 goals per game.

More assists for St. Catharines came via Jimmy Sheehan and Yanni Rallis, who contributed one a piece.

Taylor Edwards rejected 24 shots on goal for London. The Nationals incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Jonathon D Ilario made 24 saves for St. Catharines on 26 shots. The Falcons incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
