Hampton Roads Whalers falls to Space Coast Hurricanes after surprising comeback

Space Coast Hurricanes climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat Hampton Roads Whalers, 5-4.

Space Coast Hurricanes never led in the game until netting the game winner. Space Coast Hurricanes trailed 3-1 after a goal by Hampton Roads Whalers' Alexander Brissette at 17:13 in the second period. Space Coast Hurricanes tied things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Crissostomos Villarreal at 16:52 in the third period. Space Coast Hurricanes got the game winner on the power play at 19:11 in the third period on a goal by Villarreal.

Jamie Chilcott had one goal and three assists to lead Space Coast Hurricanes. Chilcott scored on the power play 2:51 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Space Coast Hurricanes had gained a power play chance when Allen McCloud was whistled for holding. Garrett Gunski picked up the assist.

Space Coast Hurricanes kept Hampton Roads Whalers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Scott made 35 saves on 40 shots. Space Coast Hurricanes got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Space Coast Hurricanes also got points from Villarreal, who also had one goal and one assist, Jack Musil, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Andrew Bathgate, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Space Coast Hurricanes also got a goal from Johnny Murray as well.

Hampton Roads Whalers was often in penalty trouble, totaling 14 minors and two majors for 58 minutes in penalty time. Hampton Roads Whalers surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Space Coast Hurricanes was unable to stop Hampton Roads Whalers from sending pucks towards the net, and Hampton Roads Whalers eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

Hampton Roads Whalers was led by Clayton Kanemitsu, who registered one goal and two assists. Kanemitsu scored 15:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hampton Roads Whalers. Christopher Haynes assisted on the tally. Matthew Zendejas also scored for Hampton Roads Whalers. More assists for Hampton Roads Whalers came via Nicholas Michels and Joshua Malts, who contributed one a piece.

Parker Bonis made 40 saves for Space Coast Hurricanes on 44 shots. Space Coast Hurricanes totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 5-for-14 on the power play. Hampton Roads Whalers registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Hampton Roads Whalers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cameron Snyder was ejected from the game.
