Hurley's goals lift Edina to 7-1 victory over Shakopee

The Edina Hornets relied on the scoring touch of Connor Hurley, who netted two goals, to beat the Shakopee Sabers, 7-1.

Hurley's tallies came at 2:41 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Edina and 13:20 into the second to make the score 7-0 Edina.

The win gave Edina a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

The Hornets forced Shakopee goalie Sean Surbaugh to work between the pipes, taking 82 shots. Edina did not rack up many penalties in the contest, racking up only one minor for two minutes in penalty time.

Edina additionally got points from Miguel Fidler, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Dylan Malmquist, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Parker Reno also scored for Edina. More assists for Edina came via Matt Nelson, who had two, Andy Jordahl, who had three, and Anthony Walsh, Cullen Munson, Ryan Hatch, and Tyler Nanne, who contributed one a piece.

Willie Benjamin made 15 saves for the Hornets on 16 shots. Edina registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Surbaugh recorded 75 saves for the Sabers. Shakopee incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
