The New Hamburg Firebirds survived a determined comeback attempt by the Simcoe Storm on the way to a 5-3 win. New Hamburg took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Simcoe storm back on a Darrin Pye goal 19:51 into the third period to pull to two goals down. The win by the Firebirds clinched the best of seven series at 4-1. New Hamburg pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 24 penalty minutes. The Firebirds were led by Sam Murray, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Murray scored 5:07 into the third period to make the score 4-2 New Hamburg. Brock Yantzi assisted on the tally. Others who scored for New Hamburg included Nick Pope, who had two and Mike DAloisio and Coy Kulich, who scored one goal each. More assists for New Hamburg came via Kory Nowak, Eric Fischer, and Taylor Wood, who each chipped in one. The Storm put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow New Hamburg to score on any of its three power plays. Simcoe was helped by Wade Metz, who registered one goal. Metz scored 1:00 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Simcoe also got a goal from Jamie Kelly as well. Other players who recorded assists for Simcoe were Josh Alward and Zack Van Louwe, who contributed one a piece. Eric Peicheff rejected 23 shots on goal for the Firebirds. The Storm's Alex Gegeny stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Simcoe incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
