Huge game by Atkins boosts Paris over Woodstock, 6-0Brant Sports Complex Sat, Feb 09, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Mitch Atkins had one goal and three assists to lead the Paris Mounties to a 6-0 victory over the Woodstock Navy Vets. Atkins got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 8:20 into the second period to make the score 4-0 Paris. Paris had taken the advantage when Woodstock's Ian Bartlett got sent off for tripping. Joel Hoekstra picked up the assist. Atkins dished an assist on Jeff Howlett's goal that made the score 2-0 Paris at 48 seconds into the first period. He then added assists on Brandan Verasamy's goal at 12:11 into the first and on Kyle Bezruki's goal at 12:10 into the second.The win by the Mounties clinched the best of seven series at 4-0. Paris forced the Navy Vets' goalies to work between the pipes, getting 42 shots and forcing 36 saves. Michael Roefs made 27 stops and Kyle Sephton made nine. The Mounties stifled Woodstock's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Paris additionally got points from Verasamy, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Paris were Matthew Small, who had two and Aaron Hosszu, Jimmy Spielvogel, Patrick Houle, and Ian Fowler, who each chipped in one. Zach Shompe made 20 saves for Paris on 20 shots. The Mounties totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Team's Jordan Kerr and Graham Kitching were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Navy Vets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
