Verasamy's big game bests Woodstock in 7-4 Paris win

The Paris Mounties' Brandan Verasamy had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-4 win over the Woodstock Navy Vets.

Verasamy scored at 8:45 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Paris and again while on the power play 14:29 into the second to make the score 5-3 Paris.

The win gave Paris a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Mounties forced Woodstock goalie Michael Roefs to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Team could not crack the Navy Vets' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Paris also got points from Jordan Kerr, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Jimmy Spielvogel, who also had one goal and one assist, Ian Fowler, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Mitch Atkins, who also registered one goal and two assists. Paris also got a goal from Scott Sippel as well. More assists for Paris came via Jeff Howlett, who had two and Ned Simpson, Brendon Skidmore, Graham Kitching, Cole Cummings, and Kyle Bezruki, who each chipped in one.

Woodstock's offense rang up 34 shots on Paris' net.

The Navy Vets were helped by Jake Schneider, who tallied one goal and two assists. Schneider scored on the power play 9:10 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Woodstock earned a power play opportunity when Mitchell Harvey was put in the box for cross checking. Mackenzie Langford picked up the assist. Woodstock additionally got points from Matt Jauernig, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Langford, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Alec Durham also scored for Woodstock. In addition, Woodstock received assists from Ian Bartlett and Christian Babb, who contributed one a piece.

The Mounties' Andrew Masters stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Paris incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Michael Roefs made 45 saves for the Navy Vets on 52 shots. Woodstock incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
