GAME RECAP

Howlett leads Paris over Woodstock, 5-1

Woodstock Community Center    Fri, Feb 01, 2013

The Paris Mounties' Jeff Howlett had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-1 win over the Woodstock Navy Vets.

Howlett's tallies came at 8:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Paris and short handed 6:12 into the second to make the score 2-1 Paris.

The win gave Paris a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Mounties' Zach Shompe was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 36 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Shompe will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Paris put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Woodstock to score on any of its five power plays. The Mounties kept the Navy Vets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Roefs made 31 saves on 36 shots.

Derek Warner (APM) also scored for Paris. Other players who recorded assists for Paris were Jordan Kerr, Graham Kitching, Scott Sippel, Brandan Verasamy, and Mitch Atkins, who contributed one a piece.

Woodstock forced Paris goalie Shompe to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Navy Vets were led by Mackenzie Langford, who scored the team's only goal. Langford scored 2:37 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Ben Thornton assisted on the tally.

The Mounties incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Paris ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mitchell Harvey was ejected from the game. Woodstock incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
