Hampton Roads Whalers holds on for 5-4 win against East Coast Eagles

East Coast Eagles tried its best to erase a three-goal deficit, but Hampton Roads Whalers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

A goal by Ryan Gullett put Hampton Roads Whalers up 5-2 in the first period, but East Coast Eagles pulled to within one on Nathan Margets' tally 15:08 into the third period.

Hampton Roads Whalers' penalty kill excelled, as Hampton Roads Whalers gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Hampton Roads Whalers was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Hampton Roads Whalers surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Hampton Roads Whalers forced East Coast Eagles goalie Bryan Canter to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.
