Huge game by Madsen boosts Washington Nationals AJ over Palm Beach Hawks, 5-1

Aaron Madsen had two goals and two assists to lead Washington Nationals AJ to a 5-1 victory over Palm Beach Hawks.

Madsen scored at 19:46 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Washington Nationals AJ and again while short handed 24:15 into the first to make the score 3-1 Washington Nationals AJ.

Washington Nationals AJ's Stanislaw Zhuchin was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. Zhuchin certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.8 entering the contest.

Washington Nationals AJ pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.

Washington Nationals AJ put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Palm Beach Hawks to score on any of its nine power plays.

Others who scored for Washington Nationals AJ included Kevin Collins, who had one and Ryan Gomez, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Washington Nationals AJ were Connor Lawrence and Gordy Bonnel, who contributed one a piece and Ian Patrican and Michael Amelio, who each chipped in two.

The Palm Beach Hawks penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Palm Beach Hawks had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Palm Beach Hawks was led by CJ Hoy, who scored the team's only goal. Hoy scored 1:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Palm Beach Hawks. Matt Geib provided the assist.

Washington Nationals AJ registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Tommy Cruz made 24 saves for Palm Beach Hawks on 29 shots.
