Hampton Roads Whalers survives Bridgton Academy comeback, wins 5-3

Hampton Roads Whalers came close to giving away a four-goal lead to Bridgton Academy, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Hampton Roads Whalers led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Hampton Roads Whalers' Cameron Snyder's scored on the power play at 21:53 in the first period to put Hampton Roads Whalers up 4-0.

Snyder was all over the ice for Hampton Roads Whalers, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win.

Hampton Roads Whalers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Hampton Roads Whalers also got points from Alexander Brissette, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Hampton Roads Whalers also got a goal from Christopher Marro as well. More assists for Hampton Roads Whalers came via Artur Raevskiy, who had one and Matthew Zendejas and Scott Cornfield, who each chipped in two.

Bridgton Academy's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Bridgton Academy is averaging 1.8 goal against for the season. Bridgton Academy got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Bridgton Academy was led by Tucker Ross, who racked up two goals. Ross scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 41 seconds into the second period to make the score 4-1 Hampton Roads Whalers. Kevin Doherty assisted on the tally. Ross' next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Hampton Roads Whalers with 14:39 left in the second period. A cross checking penalty on Nicholas Michels had put Bridgton Academy on the power play. Doherty picked up the assist. Mitchell Paulson also scored for Bridgton Academy. In addition, Bridgton Academy received assists from Curtis Fairholm and DJ Walsh, who contributed one a piece.

Blake Scott recorded 20 saves for Hampton Roads Whalers. Hampton Roads Whalers registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Bridgton Academy's Chris Eiserman stopped 21 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Bridgton Academy incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
