Dorchester falls to Lucan in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Dylan Symons gave the Lucan Irish a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Dorchester Dolphins when he scored 2:57 into the extra period.

Although Lucan was up by as many as three goals in the second period, Dorchester kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Dolphins got to within 3-2 on a goal by Jesiah Sweetland at 5:21 in the third period.

Symons had two goals to lead the Irish to victory.

Lucan's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Dorchester power plays. Dorchester was unable to stop the Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Lucan eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Lucan additionally got points from Cam Bond, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mitch Smith also scored for Lucan. Other players who recorded assists for Lucan were Mitch Morin, Cullen Harper, Colin Nancekivell, Colin Hartwick, and Mathew Smallman, who each chipped in one.

The Dolphins forced the Irish goalie Joseph Frustaglio to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

Dorchester was led by Shayne Rhyno, who grabbed two goals. Rhyno scored the first of his two goals at 18 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Lucan. Rhyno's next tally made the score 3-3 with 8:22 left in the third period. Liam Gillooly assisted on the tally. Dorchester also got a goal from Chad Brulotte as well. More assists for Dorchester came via Tyler Vere, Brendon O Shaughnessy, and Bryan McCauley, who contributed one a piece.

Lucan's Frustaglio stopped 47 shots out of the 51 that he faced. The Irish totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Lucan, Hartwick was ejected from the game. Patrick Maziarz rejected 31 shots on goal for the Dolphins. Dorchester ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Dolphins ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brady Veroughstraete was ejected from the game.
