North Middlesex's comeback falls short, Exeter wins 6-4

The Exeter Hawks, who led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Exeter and clinched a 6-4 victory.

The Hawks led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Exeter's Cam Jude's scored on the power play at 7:02 in the second period to put the Hawks up 5-1.

Exeter got the win behind a great game by Jude, who had one goal and two assists.

The Hawks made Stars' goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 43 shots and forcing 37 saves. Alex Foster made 32 stops and Ryan Swartzentruber made five. Exeter found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Hawks average 3.4 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Exeter also got points from Conner Preston, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Mitch Wild, who also had one goal and two assists. Trevor Thornton also scored for Exeter. In addition, Exeter received assists from Alex Deluce, Clarke Thompson, Kalvin Thornton, Matthew McLellan, Taylor Moir, and Jake Currie, who contributed one a piece.

The North Middlesex Stars forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 59 minutes in penalty time. North Middlesex surpassed its season average of 31.0 penalty minutes per game. The defensemen of the Stars were also effective in Exeter's zone, and came away with two goals.

North Middlesex was led by Tommy Prokes, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Prokes scored on the power play 14:27 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Exeter. The Stars had gotten the advantage when the Hawks' Cody Hern was sent off for slashing. Jordan Drury provided the assist. North Middlesex also got a goal from Ben Lawton as well. Other players who recorded assists for North Middlesex were Josh DenOtter, Michael Quinn, Spencer Kading, Brock Pinnell, and Jake Alkins, who each chipped in one.

Colton James recorded 18 saves for Exeter. The Hawks totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 3-for-12 on the power play. For Exeter, Chiristopher Pfaff was ejected from the game. North Middlesex registered three goals on six power play opportunities. For the Stars, Chris Waack and Nic Kowaluk were ejected from the contest.
