Burford uses fast start to beat Tavistock, 8-2

The Burford Bulldogs jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Tavistock Braves, 8-2.

Tyler Vandenbussche was all over the ice for Burford, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Vandenbussche scored 11:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Burford. Scott Pennwarden picked up the assist.

The Bulldogs' penalty kill excelled, as Burford gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Bulldogs forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. Burford surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bulldogs stifled Tavistock's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Braves were unable to stop Burford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulldogs eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Burford surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Bulldogs average 4.8 goals per game.

Burford additionally got points from Jesse Brooks, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Pennwarden, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Jim Salatas, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Adam Harris, who also racked up one goal and one assist. JJ Haroland also scored for Burford. In addition, Burford received assists from Guy Polillo and Cale Burbridge, who each chipped in one and Tyler MacLaughlin and Michael Thomlison, who contributed two a piece.

The Tavistock penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The Braves had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. Tavistock stifled Burford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Ben Beechey made 28 saves for the Bulldogs on 30 shots. Burford registered zero goals on 10 power play opportunities. The Bulldogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blaise Burtnick was ejected from the game. Taylor VanBockel rejected 28 shots on goal for the Braves. Team's James McCorquodale and Curtis Dotzert were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
