Wellesley rolls over Burford, 5-1

The Wellesley Applejacks had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Burford Bulldogs.

Blake Hetherington was all over the ice for Wellesley, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Hetherington scored 11:25 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellesley. Cody Tapsell provided the assist.

The Applejacks were led by goalie Josh Heer, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Heer managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.24 prior to the game.

Wellesley stifled Burford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Applejacks forced the Bulldogs goalie Don Davis to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Wellesley got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Wellesley also got points from Tapsell, who also finished with two goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Luke Rose, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Wellesley also got a goal from Brett MacDonald as well. More assists for Wellesley came via Taylor Doering, who had two and Mat Toncrac, Sam Jantzi, and Patrick Wiejak, who each chipped in one.

Burford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Wellesley power plays. The Bulldogs could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Burford puts an average of 4.8 pucks into the net per game.

The Bulldogs were led by Tyler Vandenbussche, who scored the team's only goal. Vandenbussche scored 18:04 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Wellesley. Tyler MacLaughlin picked up the assist.

The Applejacks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Burford's Davis stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Bulldogs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
