Mt.Brydges falls to Exeter in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Exeter Hawks pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs on a clutch goal by Matthew McLellan.

Exeter came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Hawks fell behind 4-2 after a power play goal by Mt.Brydges' Ryan Battersby at 10:07 in the second period. Exeter knotted things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Ryan Consitt at 16:37 in the third period.

The Hawks were sparked by McLellan, who had one goal and one assist. McLellan scored 4:17 into overtime to make the score 5-4 Exeter. Mitch Wild provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:57 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Exeter kept the Bulldogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Eric Steinman made 44 saves on 49 shots. The Hawks were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Exeter additionally got points from Chiristopher Pfaff, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Exeter also got a goal from Conner Preston as well. More assists for Exeter came via Kalvin Thornton and Tim Ruston, who each chipped in one.

Mt.Brydges racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Bulldogs had been spending in the box. Exeter was unable to stop Mt.Brydges from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulldogs eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

Mt.Brydges was led by Sean Candler, who tallied two goals and one assist. Candler scored the first of his two goals at 17:45 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cole Chilvers picked up the assist. Candler's next tally made the score 2-1 Mt.Brydges with 20:00 left in the second period. Spencer Wilson provided the assist. Mt.Brydges also got points from Chilvers, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Mt.Brydges received assists from Connor Dunn, who had two and Robert McTaggart and Sam MacGee, who contributed one a piece.

Colton James recorded 42 saves for the Hawks. Exeter registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. For the Hawks, Dylan Bedard and Dan Lawson were ejected from the contest. The Bulldogs registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. For Mt.Brydges, Wilson was ejected from the game.
