Wellesley uses shootout to best Delhi, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wellesley Applejacks defeated the Delhi Travellers in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams. In addition to the clincher, Wellesley got a shootout goal from Troy Williams.

Patrick Wiejak had a great game for the Applejacks, netting two goals. Wiejak scored at 59 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley and again while 12:12 into the first to make the score 2-1 Wellesley.

Wellesley's offense rang up 39 shots on Delhi's net.

Reid Denstedt also scored for Wellesley. More assists for Wellesley came via Shawn Fitzpatrick, who had two and Derek Lebold, Williams, Coleton Madge, and Justin Lebold, who contributed one a piece.

The Travellers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Applejacks to score on any of their four power plays. Wellesley was unable to stop Delhi from sending pucks towards the net, and the Travellers eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

Delhi was helped by Taylor Hockley, who had one goal. Hockley scored 7:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Colin Streutker provided the assist. Delhi additionally got points from Jeremy Jacobs, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Delhi also got a goal from Brad Ward as well. In addition, Delhi received assists from Dylan zero'Neill and Derek Friesen, who each chipped in one.

The Applejacks' Josh Heer stopped 41 shots out of the 44 that he faced. Wellesley incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Joe Drexler made 35 saves for the Travellers on 38 shots. Delhi incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Travellers, Mike DeCoene was ejected from the game.
