Ayr survives Tavistock comeback, wins 4-3

The Tavistock Braves tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Ayr Centennials held on for a 4-3 victory.

Ayr made the score 4-1 on a goal by Andrew Richard at 4:45 in the second period, and Tavistock got as close as 4-3 when Derek Cowing scored 18:59 into the third period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:09 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Centennials penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 18 minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 31.0 minutes per game Ayr had been spending in the box. The Centennials were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of 12 man advantages.

Ayr was helped by Jimmy Roy, who grabbed two goals. Roy scored the first of his two goals short handed at 1:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. An interference call on Spencer Sweazy put the Centennials on the penalty kill. Nick Hirs assisted on the tally. Roy's next tally short handed made the score 3-1 Ayr with 4:00 left in the first period. Ayr had gained a power play chance when Nick Quehl was whistled for slashing. Brandon Christopher picked up the assist. Ayr also got points from Christopher, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Alex Mutton, who had two and Adam Fisher and Ben Poort, who contributed one a piece.

The Braves racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. Tavistock had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Centennials were unable to stop the Braves from sending pucks towards the net, and Tavistock eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Tavistock also got a goal from Charlie Malson as well. In addition, Tavistock received assists from Matthew Lupton, who had one and Andrew Schacht, who had two.

Mitch Figueirdo recorded 28 saves for Ayr. For the Centennials, Alex Bogojevski and Nathan Redford were ejected from the contest. The Braves' Tim Parker stopped 19 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Tavistock registered three goals on 12 power play opportunities. Team's Garrett Fisher and Jake Mock were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
