GAME RECAP

Dorchester rips Lucan, 5-1

SOJHL     Wed, Dec 05, 2012

The Dorchester Dolphins had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Lucan Irish.

Dorchester's Jake Fonti was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 41 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Fonti will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.75.

The Dolphins were paced by Brett Dzyngel, who finished with one goal. Dzyngel scored 16:07 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dorchester. Liam Gillooly assisted on the tally.

Dorchester excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Dolphins' offense rang up 45 shots on Lucan's net.

Dorchester also got points from Gillooly, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Shayne Rhyno also scored for Dorchester. In addition, Dorchester received assists from Jacob Baribeau, who had one and Tyler Blue and Brendon O Shaughnessy, who each chipped in two.

The Irish did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Lucan averages 4.0 goals per game. Dorchester was unable to stop the Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Lucan eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Irish found themselves short handed often, totaling 32 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

Lucan was led by Mitch Smith, who scored the team's only goal. Smith scored 8:01 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dorchester. Colin Nancekivell picked up the assist.

The Dolphins incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Joseph Frustaglio recorded 40 saves for the Irish.
