North Middlesex survives Port Stanley comeback, wins 6-5

The North Middlesex Stars, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by North Middlesex and clinched a 6-5 victory.

The Stars led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when North Middlesex's Mike Sharpe's scored at 16:28 in the second period to put the Stars up 4-1.

Alex Davis had a great game for North Middlesex, netting two goals. Davis scored at 9:22 into the third period to make the score 5-5 and again while on the power play 11:35 into the third to make the score 6-5 North Middlesex.

The Stars managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. North Middlesex ended up below its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. The Stars' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, North Middlesex averages 2.9 goals per contest.

North Middlesex additionally got points from Zak MacNaught, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. North Middlesex also got a goal from Mack Graham as well. Other players who recorded assists for North Middlesex were Michael Quinn, who had three and Jake Alkins and Tommy Prokes, who each chipped in one.

The Port Stanley Sailors forced the Stars goalie Ryan Swartzentruber to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Port Stanley was helped by Josh Tremblay, who finished with one goal. Tremblay scored 18:42 into the second period to make the score 4-3 North Middlesex. Dan Gordon picked up the assist. Port Stanley also got points from Gordon, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Ryan McDonnell, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Tom Yurek also scored for Port Stanley. More assists for Port Stanley came via Drew Eaton, who had two and Mark Fraser, Mark Brisson, Findley Brandon, and Cody Taggert, who contributed one a piece.

North Middlesex's Swartzentruber stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Stars registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Brandon Garner made 24 saves for the Sailors on 30 shots. Port Stanley incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
