Dresden uses shootout to best Mt.Brydges, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Dresden defeated the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Dresden came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Dresden fell behind 3-1 after a power play goal by Mt.Brydges' Sean Candler at 5:40 in the second period. Dresden knotted things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Jeff Vanrabaeys at 1:27 in the third period.

Dresden pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 31 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:20 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Dresden kept the Bulldogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Eric Steinman made 42 saves on 47 shots. Dresden got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Dresden was helped by Dylan Mertz, who registered one goal. Mertz scored on the power play 8:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dresden. Dresden earned a power play opportunity when Tony Lindner was put in the box for delay of game. Alex Schmidt provided the assist. Dresden additionally got points from Josh Clements, who also had one goal and one assist. Josh Beatty also scored for Dresden. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were John Montgomery, Taylor Sisson, Jesse Allen, Derek Daly, and Macks Holmes, who each chipped in one.

Mt.Brydges racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Bulldogs had been spending in the box. Mt.Brydges' offense rang up 49 shots on Dresden's net.

The Bulldogs were helped by Jeremy Denomme, who racked up two goals and one assist. Denomme scored the first of his two goals at 16:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Spencer Wilson assisted on the tally. Denomme's next tally made the score 2-1 Mt.Brydges with 19:21 left in the second period. Tyler Lockwood picked up the assist. Mt.Brydges also got points from Candler, who also tallied one goal and two assists.

Brent Paxton recorded 45 saves for Dresden. Dresden registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Team's Kyle Havens, Alex Ritchie, and Wade Esselman were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Mt.Brydges registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For the Bulldogs, Hayden Trbizan and Grant Duffield were ejected from the contest.
