Hagersville outlasts Wellesley, 4-3

The Hagersville Hawks and the Wellesley Applejacks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Hagersville made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jacob Brown's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Derek Medeiros was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Medeiros' tallies came at 13:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hagersville and 4:05 into the second to make the score 2-1 Hagersville.

Hagersville forced Wellesley goalie Josh Heer to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Hagersville also got a goal from Jacob Erwin as well. More assists for Hagersville came via Nick Halliday, Dan Stewart, Jesse Ross, and Cole Martin, who contributed one a piece.

The Applejacks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Hagersville power plays.

Wellesley was helped by Devon Wagner, who tallied one goal. Wagner scored 14:54 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Coleton Madge assisted on the tally. Wellesley also got points from Corey Way, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Troy Williams also scored for Wellesley. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Josh Herd and Justin Lebold, who each chipped in one.

Matt Murphy recorded 27 saves for the Hawks. Hagersville ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For the Hawks, Ryan McLaren was ejected from the game. Josh Heer made 35 saves for the Applejacks on 39 shots. Wellesley totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. The Applejacks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Steenson was ejected from the game.
