Cobban nets hat trick, leads Lucan to 11-4 win over Exeter

Keiron Cobban lifted the Lucan Irish to an 11-4 victory with a hat trick against the Exeter Hawks.

Cobban got on the scoresheet 10:03 into the second period. He then added goals at 1:42 into the third and at 17:23 into the third.

Lucan led 5-1 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after.

Exeter fell victim to a deadly the Irish power play, which ripped the Hawks for four goals.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Lucan forced Exeter's goaltenders to work all game long, taking 49 shots and forcing 38 saves. Bryan Paolotto made 29 stops and Colton James made nine. The Irish outdid their season average for goals scored. Lucan has scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

Lucan additionally got points from Mitch Smith, who also grabbed two goals and two assists and Wes Huston, who also tallied one goal and four assists. Lucan also had goals scored by Tyson Patrick, who had one and Dylan Murray and Colin Hartwick, who each put in two. Other players who recorded assists for Lucan were Fraser Lewis, who had two and Mitch Read, Cullen Harper, Colin Nancekivell, and Cam Bond, who each chipped in one.

The Irish were unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Exeter eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Hawks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Exeter was led by Zach Anderson, who grabbed two goals. Anderson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 17:24 into the first period to make the score 5-1 Lucan. The Hawks had gained a power play chance when Nancekivell was whistled for slashing. Kalvin Thornton picked up the assist. Anderson's next tally on the power play made the score 6-2 Lucan with 13:17 left in the second period. Exeter also got a goal from Alex Deluce as well. More assists for Exeter came via Mitch Wild, Matthew McLellan, and Carter Austin (FAPM), who contributed one a piece.

Dylan Hoover recorded 29 saves for Lucan. The Irish ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. Lucan ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mathew Smallman was ejected from the game. Exeter totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. For the Hawks, Chiristopher Pfaff was ejected from the game.
