Huge game by Rose boosts Wellesley over Norfolk, 8-1Wellesley Sat, Nov 10, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellesley Applejacks' Luke Rose had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 8-1 win over the Norfolk Rebels. Rose's tallies came at 9:32 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellesley and 14:26 into the first to make the score 3-0 Wellesley.Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:34 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Wellesley's offense rang up 43 shots on Norfolk's net. The Applejacks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Wellesley has scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The Applejacks were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 14 man advantages. Wellesley also got points from Steve Tait, who also racked up three goals and one assist and Corey Way, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Wellesley also got a goal from Devon Wagner as well. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Troy Williams, who had three, Shawn Fitzpatrick, Cody Tapsell, and Tyler Eckert, who contributed one a piece, and Josh Herd and Coleton Madge, who each chipped in two. The Rebels forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and three majors for 71 minutes in penalty time. Norfolk had been averaging 37.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Rebels found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 13 shots against Wellesley's defense. Norfolk was led by Joshua Slegers, who scored the team's only goal. Slegers scored on the power play 1:35 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wellesley. Ryan Oatway provided the assist. Trevor Olender made 12 saves for the Applejacks on 13 shots. Wellesley ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Applejacks, Madge was ejected from the game. Alex Tipping rejected 35 shots on goal for the Rebels. Norfolk registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Team's Kurtis Pettitt, Brayden Dickinson, and Oatway were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
