Port Stanley falls to Blenheim in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Blenheim pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Port Stanley Sailors on a clutch goal by Owen Bateman.

Blenheim overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Blenheim was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Port Stanley's Tyson Corkum at 15:25 in the first period. Blenheim tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Ryan Frizzell at 13:13 in the third period.

Blenheim was sparked by Bateman, who racked up one goal. Bateman scored 4:18 into overtime to make the score 5-4 Blenheim. Kirk McKillop picked up the assist.

The Sailors were unable to stop Blenheim from sending pucks towards the net, and Blenheim eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. Blenheim was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 30 penalty minutes. Blenheim was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 11 chances. Blenheim's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Blenheim additionally got points from Jake ONeil, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Tyler Clarke, who also had one goal and one assist. Blenheim also got a goal from Bowe Shepley as well. Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were Zack Horvath, who had three and Taylor Phillips and Aidan Wiebenga, who each chipped in one.

Port Stanley's offense rang up 34 shots on Blenheim's net. The Sailors' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Port Stanley finished with 32 penalty minutes. The Sailors were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 11 man advantages.

Port Stanley was helped by Zak Jukna, who finished with one goal. Jukna scored 10:50 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Tyler Beaulieu provided the assist. Port Stanley also got points from Beaulieu, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Austin Blais also scored for Port Stanley. In addition, Port Stanley received assists from Graham Silcox, Ryan McDonnell, Taylor McArthur, Luke McGuire, and Trevor Smith, who contributed one a piece.

Dylan Vanderpol made 30 saves for Blenheim on 34 shots. Ricky Corkum recorded 46 saves for the Sailors.
