Exeter holds on for 4-3 win against Mitchell

Mitchell tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but the Exeter Hawks held on for a 4-3 victory.

Exeter made the score 4-1 on a goal by Kalvin Thornton at 12:59 in the third period, and Mitchell got as close as 4-3 when Brent Rae scored 18:39 into the third period.

Mitchell's power play was ineffective against the Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Exeter was helped by Wesley McGovern, who had one goal. McGovern scored 11:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Matthew McLellan picked up the assist. Exeter additionally got points from Thornton, who also racked up one goal and one assist and McLellan, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Exeter also got a goal from Chiristopher Pfaff as well. In addition, Exeter received assists from Brodie Balcom, who had two and Cody Hern and Cam Jude, who each chipped in one.

Mitchell's offense rang up 45 shots on the Hawks' net.

Mitchell was helped by Ryan Sykes, who registered one goal. Sykes scored on the power play 15:34 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Exeter. Mitchell had taken the advantage when Exeter's Cam Purdy got sent off for holding. Rae provided the assist. Mitchell also got points from Rae, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Zane Walkom also scored for Mitchell. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Derek MacDonald, Jerry Ennet, and Luke Salter, who contributed one a piece.

Bryan Paolotto rejected 42 shots on goal for the Hawks. Exeter incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Ben Nelson recorded 24 saves for Mitchell. Mitchell incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
