Hagersville wins tough contest against Wellesley, 5-3

The game between the Hagersville Hawks and the Wellesley Applejacks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Hagersville emerged with a 5-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Hayden Baird secured the win for the Hawks with a goal in the third period.

With four goals and one assist between them, Derek Medeiros and Mitch Green teamed up to power Hagersville's offense. Medeiros registered two goals and Green also added two goals and one assist.

The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Hagersville gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

The Hawks stifled Wellesley's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hagersville kept the Applejacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Trevor Olender made 31 saves on 36 shots. The Hawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Hagersville finished with 30 penalty minutes.

Hagersville also got points from Green, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Baird, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Aleck Boyd, who had three and Marshall Greenham, Nick Halliday, Jesse Ross, and Justin Paccheco, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley was led by Michael Pollice, who finished with two goals. Pollice scored the first of his two goals at 2:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Reid Denstedt assisted on the tally. Pollice's next tally made the score 3-2 Wellesley with 7:51 left in the second period. Connor McLeod provided the assist. Luke Rose also scored for Wellesley. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Steve Tait, Jake Steenson, Coleton Madge, and Corey Way, who contributed one a piece.

Paccheco recorded 27 saves for the Hawks. Hagersville registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Applejacks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
