Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Delhi Travellers defeated the Hagersville Hawks in a shootout 6-5 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. Delhi's other shootout goal was scored by Derek Friesen.The Travellers came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Delhi fell behind 5-2 after a power play goal by Hagersville's Derek Medeiros at 18:59 in the second period. The Travellers knotted things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Cody Stout at 11:16 in the third period. Delhi was sparked by Jordan Belanger, who racked up one goal and one assist. Belanger scored on the power play 1:45 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville. The Travellers earned a power play opportunity when Eric Drehmer was put in the box for charging. Stout assisted on the tally. Delhi kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tommy Accordal AP made 28 saves on 34 shots. The Travellers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Delhi finished with 36 penalty minutes. Delhi additionally got points from Stout, who also registered one goal and one assist. Josh Bradshaw also scored for Delhi. More assists for Delhi came via Harrison McRobert and Colin VanDale, who contributed one a piece and Brad Ward and Friesen, who each chipped in two. Hagersville forced Travellers' netminders to work between the pipes, finishing with 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Nick Heath made seven stops and Alex Stephens made 20. Hagersville also got points from Medeiros, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Hagersville also got a goal from Kyle Sault as well. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Deacan Krause, who had two and Jesse Ross, Mitch Green, and Cole Martin, who contributed one a piece. The Travellers registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Hawks incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. |
